Past & Future Programming
UCAN has & will always attempt to provide opportunities for youth & their families that empower & enrich their lives. Past Programming UCAN has partnered with Brunswick County Schools & Communities In Schools providing enrichment activities during their 21st Century Afterschool Program. UCAN provided those activities at Supply Elementary, Shallotte Middle, Bolivia Elementary, and Leland Elementary & Middle Schools. As well as schools, UCAN have collaboratively worked with area churches to provide family trips, parenting classes and summer camps to youth from or near their communities. A host of conferences and banquets have from day one been a part of UCAN’s ideal networking and support. That’s just the beginning of the list of support UCAN has provided youth and families in Brunswick County. In 2016; we provided a 3-week summer camp for school age youth at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Shallotte, NC. Followed by a day-long Back to School Conference for middle and high school students with a trip to Carowinds afterwards. Families throughout the county attended a trip to Washington, DC for a experiential learning experience; touring the Capitol, White House Visitors' Center, Baltimore Inner Harbor and museums including the newly opened National Museum of African American History and Culture.
We’re not done yet...Future Programming
UCAN has committed to offering some of the previous programming like UCAN KIDS Camp but offer new programs, such as UCAN Back to School conferences; to give youth a great start at beginning and throughout their school year. Also, increasing exploration is high on our list to provide youth promising opportunities like visiting colleges, museums, and other historic, educational and recreational facilities. UCAN Sisterhood Program will provide assistance & resources to our single mothers & guardians, anticipating an upcoming UCAN Women's Conference in 2017.
